Konstantin Vinogradov — VC Investor in Open Source, AI and Infrastructure Software

Hi 👋🏻

I’m an early-stage investor specializing in open source, AI, and infrastructure software, with over a decade of experience backing tech startups, previously as a General Partner at venture firm Runa Capital. I am a Kauffman Fellow (Class 30).

Beyond investing, I founded the Open Source Endowment, created a quarterly ranking of trending open-source startups — ROSS Index, and occasionally publish notes on open source and other topics.

Started programming at 13 to build games, then studied math, physics, and computer science at university, and still enjoy exploring new technologies hands-on. Especially with AI coding agents.

Based in London, I often spend time in the SF Bay Area.

Investments

Today I partner with technical founders as an angel investor, offering open source expertise, unique data-driven insights, and a strong network of infra software funders and operators.

Earlier in my career, I was a General Partner at Runa Capital ($600M+ AUM), which has backed 100+ enterprise software and deep-tech startups since 2010, including n8n, Mambu, Nginx, MariaDB, Lace Lithography and Pasqal. I also originated the firm’s seed program and internal AI & data platform — approaches I actively continue to apply today.

Select seed and pre-seed investments I made personally or at Runa:

  • Mastra: Leading open-source TypeScript AI agent framework
  • Entire: Next-gen developer platform for humans and AI agents
  • White Circle: AI guardrails and red-teaming platform for businesses
  • Twenty: Leading open-source enterprise CRM platform
  • Higgsfield: AI video and image generator for social media
  • Rork: AI-powered mobile app building platform
  • Archestra: Enterprise MCP Platform for AI Agents
  • Dosu: AI teammate that manages documentation for engineering teams
  • Keep: Open-source AIOps and alert management (acquired by Elastic)
  • Sidekick: Work-focused browser based on Chromium (acquired by Perplexity)

Philanthropy

Charity is important for my philosophy of life, and I’ve channeled this into building tech-enabled communities, endowments, and nonprofit projects.

My largest initiative, co-founded with tech founders, VCs, and OSS creators, is the Open Source Endowment — the world’s first endowment fund exclusively dedicated to open source. It creates a truly sustainable funding source for maintainers by leveraging similarities between OSS and universities, a data-driven approach to donations, and other original ideas.
